lyrics

We interrupt your program for a moment of time
fightin’ my attention span, and balancin’ out my mind
At least I try to do it. Gluttony used to it
Awaken with a chance to change, I think we blew it
...who am I, take it with a grain a salt
It’s all too big for finger pointin’, blame or fault
So welcome to the lives of the young broke and nameless
A population no more complacent with entertainment
The kids are all hungry for somethin’ to make ‘em feel
We just feed ‘em TV lies, reality isn’t real
They wonder why we say, pass a flask my way
Disparity and dismay kept me awake for days
Another tough topic, try to push it away
‘cause I am only one man, and I forgot how to pray
It’s a decision we been given, make a difference or a livin’
I get lost in contemplation, countin’ away the minutes

We just wanna hang ‘em high
‘cause they hung us out to dry
Got us all askin’ why, in the hell, would I even try?
When the beautiful gets outweighed by ugly half the time
We just wanna stay alive
Not get swallowed by the tide
We get by day by day, one day we’ll make it right
Stay awake late at night to write and fight the good fight

Made it out the other side, nothin’ but a black eye
I’m considered lucky but I still see divides
high and low, buy the farm, kick the bucket
knuckle up and when you’re done get your shirt tucked in
Nothin’ new, think they can walk over you
Well, maybe the police need somethin’ better to do
Like knockin’ on office doors, talkin’ to white collars
‘bout despair in America, barely got me a dollar
And I couldn't care less bout a collection of dunks
this whole overfed country's in need of a stomach pump
drugged up, dumbed down, just a cog in the machine
Don’t think this's what they mean by the American Dream
Haiti’s still in shambles, Japan is too
If we can’t donate with a text then we don’t know what to do
It’s too much to hold up, I promise I see it too
problem is we never really had a balance to lose

We just wanna hang ‘em high
‘cause they hung us out to dry
Got us all askin’ why, in the hell, would I even try?
When the beautiful gets outweighed by ugly half the time
We just wanna stay alive
Not get swallowed by the tide
We get by day by day and one day we’ll make it right
I stay awake late at night, to write, and fight the good fight
